Inflation is a tricky thing to understand. The retail price of anything is affected by countless factors – material costs, production costs, wages, customer demand – so it’s no wonder that retail prices seldom stay stable. Governments fight to keep inflation under control, and sometime fail like in Hungary after World War Two where prices doubled every fifteen hours or so, condemning thousands of people into poverty.
